Romantic dinners

Looking to spice up dinner? Forget the curry powder and head straight to Reynolds Wrap’s dinnerunplugged.com, where you can send your mate an e-mail invitation for a home-cooked meal. The site has easy recipes such as Ginger Salmon (pictured), hints for romance (it helps to turn off your cell phone and pager), and a chance to win a spa getaway for two – sounds scrumptious.

Happy birthdays

Whether your daughter is celebrating her sweet 16 or your husband is heading “over the hill,” you’ll find everything you need to plan a birthday bash in “Memorable Milestone Birthdays” by Robin Kring, recently released by Meadowbrook Press. The book costs $9 and features such party ideas as the Baby Buggy Boogie for a first birthday, or the 1950s Sock Hop 50th birthday celebration. In addition, the book has gift ideas, meal plans, invitation suggestions and entertainment tips. For information or to order a copy, visit www.meadowbrookpress.com.

Star bright

Would you like some art with that? Try the Island Star Caf? in Deer Isle – a feast for the eyes and the tummy. The combination gallery-restaurant opened in June and serves up art on the walls and light entrees on the tables, including veggie nori rolls, haddock cakes, salads and quiche. The restaurant opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast and lunch lasts from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For information, call 348-6292.
