Congratulations for Festival of Champions

I would like to congratulate the organizers, administrators, volunteers, coaches, athletes, parents and spectators for the recent cross country Festival of Champions in Belfast. I am sure there were bumps in the road but as a spectator they were not visible.

Fans were cheering for their own special runner and team but also encouraging other runners and teams. The camaraderie and sportsmanship of everyone was outstanding.

As I first got there the freshman girls were in the last half-mile of the course and there were six or seven Hampden boys cheering by name in unison as each Hampden runner ran by. I was impressed.

And what other sport, of this magnitude, can athletes from a small school like Islesboro School compete head to head, stride for stride with athletes from the likes of Portland and Lewiston high schools and all the schools in between. Truly a remarkable event.

Also special thanks to www.sub5.com for their fast and complete results of the meet.

Mansfierld Stadium is a field of dreams

As a member of the Bangor High School Rams baseball team for the past four years, I have been fortunate to call Mansfield Stadium my home field. I want to publicly thank Mr. and Mrs. Stephen King for donating such an outstanding ballpark to the community. I also want to thank the management and staff of the Mansfield Stadium for their tireless maintenance and upkeep of the entire facility.

I have played baseball throughout New England on many different high school and college fields. Whenever our team returned to the Mansfield diamond, I was filled with pride to be back on our home field. There are few high school, junior league, senior league or even college players that have a field of this quality.

From the announcing of the games to the sight of the American flag at center field to the beautiful green grass to the dedicated coaches to the supportive fans to the friendly staff to the Senior League World Series to the scoreboard to the music played between innings to the “world famous ballpark sundaes,” I am thankful.

Mansfield Baseball Stadium is a field of dreams.
