Baltimore police find hijacked tanker truck

BALTIMORE – A gasoline tanker truck with a Maine license plate was taken at gunpoint from a gas station but found later Friday in Washington, police said.

Police spokesman Troy Harris said the truck was found in the District of Columbia, but didn’t have further details. District of Columbia police spokesman Israel James said the truck was found abandoned at about 1 p.m. in southwest Washington.

Baltimore police spokesman Sterling Clifford said the hijacking occurred while the driver of a Baltimore Tank Lines truck was fueling the tractor-trailer at about 5 a.m. Friday at a fuel-loading depot near Interstate 895. A man in a blue jumpsuit confronted the driver with a semi-automatic handgun and forced him out of the truck.

The tanker was carrying 7,100 gallons of No. 2 diesel fuel.
