Vermont shuts out UMaine

ORONO – Loren Hill and Lee Stephan Kouadio each scored a goal in the second half Wednesday to lift the University of Vermont to a 2-0 America East men’s soccer victory over Maine.

Roger Scully made three saves on nine shots for 5-9-2 Vermont.

Nemanja Kostic stopped four of 11 shots for the 3-11-1 Black Bears.

Colby 5, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Logan King and Mike Butler had a goal and an assist apiece as Colby kept the Elm City Bowl Trophy.

Scott Brown, Will Kinder and Ben Wakana had the other goals for 6-5-2 Colby and Doug Sibor teamed up with Zak Starr to make four saves on nine shots.

Keegan Curtin and Russell Beckwith combined for 19 saves on 34 shots for Thomas.

Field hockey

Saint Joseph’s 1, UMF 0

At Standish, Julia Ostrowski scored the game-winning goal with 16 seconds remaining in the game to lift Saint Joseph’s past the University of Maine-Farmington.

Kathleen Simoes made seven saves on nine shots for the 10-6 Monks.

Kaeleigh Barker stopped 10 of 21 shots for the10-5 Beavers.

Women’s soccer

Bates 3, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington, Ali Emery scored two goals as the Bobcats beat the Beavers, ending UMF’s unbeaten streak at 13.

Molly Wagner added a goal and an assist for 3-10 Bates of Lewiston. Nini Spaulding made two saves on five shots.

Melissa Demerchant, Kerry Kowalczyk and Ashley Holshouser combined two make four saves on 15 shots for the 13-4-1 Beavers.
