Sunshine Club to hold benefit holiday market

The Sunshine Club for Children annual Holiday Market will be quite an adventure for those who attend this year, and chairperson Peggy Kaufman and her crew have done all they can to make it comfortable and convenient for you to attend.

The one-day show is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Shrine Center, 586 Main St., Bangor.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Sunshine Club’s Transportation Fund for Children to the Shriners Burn Unit in Boston or the Orthopedic Hospital in Springfield, Mass.

Due to construction around the Holiday Market site, a courtesy shuttle bus will run from the Shrine show to the shows at Bass Park so that parking will not be a problem.

Kaufman and organizer Lorraine Harvey remind you that you can shop, have lunch and supper in the cafe, purchase everything from crafts to antiques, and participate in a raffle, all to help the children.

Many individuals and business owners may have heard from representatives of the Brewer Firefighters Union Local 2162 lately, as they seek contributions to support youth athletics and assist with acquiring medical equipment for children with disabilities.

The contributions include tickets to A Night of Laughs Comedy Show at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the Brewer High School gymnasium.

Among the performers are Chance Langton and Rob Steen. For tickets or more information, call 989-9670.

Bingo fans won’t want to miss the annual Longaberger Basket Bingo Fundraiser with doors opening at 11 a.m. and games beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Brewer Eagles Club, 22 Atlantic Ave.

Admission is $10 at the door. The fundraiser benefits OHI of Hermon, and features a variety of games, raffles and door prizes, and more than $2,000 worth of Longaberger items.

OHI is a social service agency that helps people with disabilities live and work in their own communities.

With Del Ramey as chief cook, and in charge of the kitchen, I’ve been informed that you are sure to enjoy the annual harvest supper at Gray Memorial United Methodist Church with sittings at 4:30 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the church on the corner of Sweden and Prospect streets in Caribou.

A dozen church members will bake the turkeys, and others will prepare the rest of the meal, including dessert.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and can be purchased from church members, at the office or at the door.

Victoria Kahl e-mailed that the Rock Church of Bangor is hosting a benefit dinner theater and silent auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the church, 1195 Ohio St., Bangor.

Admission is $5 plus donations, and children under 5 get in for free.

The event benefits Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine, a nonprofit organization in Old Town that provides support services for adoptive and foster parents and kinship providers, Kahl explained.

The evening’s musical entertainment will be the band Reality, Kahl wrote, and anyone with items to donate for the event, or the auction, can call event coordinator Ken Bustard at 825-3595.
