UMA presidential candidates to visit Bangor UCB to hold open campus meetings for three finalists

AUGUSTA – The three finalists for the position of University of Maine Augusta president are scheduled to visit the University College of Bangor Wednesday, Nov. 14, through Friday, Nov. 16.

The schedule is as follows:

. Wednesday, Nov. 14, David Matthew Rosen.

Rosen received a bachelor’s degree in English from Haverford College in Pennsylvania in 1971. He went on to earn a master’s degree and doctorate in English from The John Hopkins University in Maryland in 1974 and 1979 respectively.

He currently is employed as senior vice president of Woodbury University in California.

. Thursday, Nov. 15, Jeffery N. Mills.

Mills received a bachelor’s degree in social studies at the University of Maine in 1983. He later earned a master’s degree in higher education administration in 1994 and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies at Arizona State University in 1997.

He now is vice president of university advancement at Monmouth University in New Jersey. Before his current position, Mills was the vice president of advancement and president of the University of Maine Alumni Association.

. Friday, Nov. 16, Allyson Hughes Handley.

Handley received her bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Western Ontario in Canada. She went on to receive a master’s degree and doctorate in education at The Johns Hopkins University in Maryland.

Since 2004, she has served as senior policy adviser for postsecondary economic development initiatives in Kentucky.

During each of their visits, the candidates will attend an open campus meeting from 9 to 10 a.m. at Huskins Lounge in Eastport Hall.

Each candidate will have visited the Augusta campus the day before their scheduled visit to Bangor. About 1,000 students, 20 percent of UMA’s total enrollment, take classes at the Bangor campus.

The UMA Presidential Search Committee, composed of representatives from the student body, faculty, staff and community, has been meeting since the summer and expects to make a final recommendation to the chancellor and board of trustees in December.

A vote by the full board of trustees is expected in January, with the new president beginning no later than July 1, 2008. Richard Randall’s term as UMA President is scheduled to conclude on June 30, 2008.
