With more detailed information about the work of Literacy Volunteers of Washington County saved for a later column, the organization’s executive director, Eileen Campbell, reminds readers that a supper and cribbage tournament is planned this weekend to benefit The Imagination Library.
The event will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Holy Name Parish Hall on Broadway in Machias.
The supper donation is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, $12 for families, free for under 5. It includes a $2 discount for those bringing a dish or dessert to share.
The supper features stews, desserts, coffee, tea and juice.
The entry fee for the cribbage tournament, after the supper, is $5, and a cash prize will be offered.
Also, the literacy group will hold an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday with proceeds from both events benefiting the work of Literacy Volunteers of Washington County.
Jane Harburger is chair of the St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church holiday fair, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the church on the corner of Holyoke and North Main streets in Brewer.
A country kitchen of baked goods, crafts tables and the gift gallery are featured as well as 150 like-new hardcover novels.
Breakfast foods, and a lunch, will be available.
Executive Director Joshua Campbell Torrance reminds Woodlawn Museum supporters its annual fall cleanup day begins at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the museum on Route 172 in Ellsworth.
Volunteers are needed to rake leaves and remove debris from the lawns of the city’s largest park, and its gardens need tending, too, he wrote.
Refreshments will be served.

The Train Doctor, Bill Soule of Orono, will hold office hours, he wrote, inviting you to attend the Eastern Maine Model Railroad Club 31st annual train show and sale from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
You may “buy or sell train articles in the silent auctions,” Soule wrote, adding that “there will be dozens of vendors of toy and model trains and purveyors of ferroequinology.”
“The Club’s modular HO scale layout will be running, and refreshments will be for sale.”
Admission is $3 and free for children under 12.

Nancy Grant of the Orono AFS student exchange program reports its 30th annual auction will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at Asa Adams School.
The $5 entry fee includes a chili dinner (regular or vegetarian) served with corn bread, beverage and dessert.
The silent auction closes at 5:15 p.m., and the live auction, with Dave Ames as guest auctioneer, will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Everything from Bangor Symphony Orchestra, Maine Center for the Arts and Penobscot Theatre Company tickets to a night at Nonesuch Farm, dental work, a weekend at a Sugarloaf/USA condominium, Christmas trees, handcrafts by local artisans, the use of a wood splitter and dinner at the Orono Fire Station with Fireman Dennis Bean are up for bid.
All proceeds from this event benefit the Orono AFS Scholarship Fund.
