Moms in the spotlight of two new reality series

Move over, “Real Housewives” – there are more mommas on the way. WE TV and The CW have two very different shows hitting the tube next month that put moms at the center of attention.

On The CW, get ready for some catfights as mother-daughter pairs compete for the crown. Some teams have pageant experience, while it’s obvious that others have never had a runway showdown.

The first episode will introduce you to all the teams as they create team names and come up with coordinating outfits in hopes of giving the judges a good first impression. But let me warn you – there are a few introductions that are a little painful to watch.

Fortunately, in “Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants” it’s not just about beauty and swimsuit bodies. If the sneak-peek premiere is any hint of what’s to come, the judges want to see mother-daughter pairs who have good relationships and are smart and eloquent.

As usual, I’ll be rooting for the underdog to come from behind, and I think that if the less-experienced tomboy team can pull it together, they’ll be full of surprises.

Tune in at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 – after the finale of “America’s Next Top Model” – to see who’s the first to lose their sashes.

Then at 10 p.m., change the channel to see what WE has to offer on its new series “Party Mamas.”

We’ve all heard of them. The moms who go all-out to make their children’s birthday party the biggest and best on the block. This one takes it to a whole new level when moms toss aside notions of pinatas and pizza, and bring in Kobe beef hamburgers and a visit from one of the New York Yankees’ World Series stars for his son’s ninth birthday.

You’ll also see a $65,000 14th birthday and a Brooklyn couple that creates the ultimate Christmas scene, only to lose their power.

Can these moms keep it under control? I’m guessing we’ll see some stress-filled moments before it’s all over.
