Tickets still available for Spruce Run fundraiser

This notice is last-minute but, if you’d like to do something a bit unusual this holiday season to assist with the work of Spruce Run of Bangor, Penobscot County’s domestic abuse service agency, you might consider attending Reach Out and Relax: Bangor’s Biggest Foot Spa Party.

The benefit, for adults only and sponsored by The Body Shop at Home Independent Consultants, begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the College Center Ballroom, University College of Bangor, 201 Texas Ave.

According to information provided by Stephanie Campbell, you will “enjoy some light refreshments and shop from your seat while you soak your feet.”

The benefit also includes a silent auction.

A percentage of all sales, plus any monetary donations you make, benefit Spruce Run, and seating is limited to 100, so call Campbell at 848-7385 or e-mail stebo11@roadrunner.com to confirm your space.

You are also invited to contribute items to the silent auction.

Hosts for the event include area television personalities Amy Erickson, Joy Hollowell and Catherine Pegram.

Myrtle Pendleton told me Bucksport Senior Citizens will be hosts for two concerts on the same day, featuring Jose Duddy.

The concerts are 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the Bucksport Senior Center, 125 Broadway.

Advance tickets are $12 and are available at BSC. Tickets at the door are $14 each.

Bethany McKnight reports St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary will hold its official public holiday lighting ceremony for its annual Lights of Remembrance program at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the hospital’s Broadway entrance in Bangor.

For $25 or more, you can purchase a commemorative ornament through the Lights of Remembrance program. Order forms are available at the SJH front desk, in the gift shop or by calling Mary Clift, 667-1114.

Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Micki Sumpter reminds you tickets are still available for the Harlem Rockets comedy basketball team that will play the Ellsworth Dream Team at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Ellsworth High School.

Advance tickets are $6 or $7 at the door and can be purchased at the Chamber or Morrison Chevrolet in Ellsworth, or Worcester Wreath Co. in Harrington. Proceeds will benefit the company’s Wreaths Across America Campaign.

The Ellsworth Dream Team is led by P.J. Davis of Morrison Chevrolet, and the Rockets’ performance includes audience participation and fun for children and families before, during and after the game.

Members of the performing arts group Hermon High School Presents invite you to see “Oh, Grow Up!” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, and Friday, Nov. 30, in the HHS auditorium.

Tickets are $4 for adults, $3 for students, and are available at the door.

Proceeds from the production benefit the HHS senior class.

Cheryl Olson Lorenz, who is serving as stage director, wrote that “the play offers comedic and dramatic looks at the lives of contemporary teenagers.”

“It was written by the Scribes of Bucksport High School,” Lorenz added and she, director Joanne Durkovich and assistant director Mark Noyes adapted it for the Hermon performances.

Proceeds from intermission refreshments made by culinary arts students and cast member Meagan Herbert benefit the Hermon Music & Performing Arts Boosters Club.

They call themselves the Second-Grade Moms, and they’re working to help one of their own.

The Second-Grade Moms will hold a benefit spaghetti supper and silent auction for Lynne Dumont of Bangor from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Fourteenth Street School in Bangor.

Admission is $5 for singles, $20 for families.

Second-grade mom Lisa Bullard of Bangor reports proceeds from the event will help Dumont “with medical and living expenses” as she recovers from a serious automobile accident she was involved in last October.

Included in the silent auction will be such things as University of Maine basketball tickets and items from Longaburger baskets, Creative Memories and Mary Kay cosmetics.

Vice President Stephanie Erb reports Bangor Community Theatre’s Annual Meeting is 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Columbia Street Baptist Church in Bangor.

Executive and board member elections and other topics, “including the postponed dates and location for the 2008 production of ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ and additional audition dates and time” are on the agenda.
