State assessor offers waiver of tax penalties

AUGUSTA – Due to the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., last week, state tax assessor Anthony J. Neves has announced that Maine Revenue Services will waive failure-to-pay and-or failure-to-file return penalties for all Maine taxes that were due to be filed Sept. 17 as long as those payments and returns are filed by Monday, Oct. 1.

Maine Revenue Services will re-evaluate the duration of this relief as circumstances develop and may provide additional relief as warranted by disruptions in mail and other forms of communication.
