Term limits work

It appears Ann Luther, “Repeal term limits,” (BDN, Nov. 20) is unhappy with the results of the latest voting. It seems very clear that the majority of people were in favor of term limits, and there was no hidden agenda with regards to the voting on this issue. I think people voted against it because they were against it, period.

Our elected officials become far too comfortable in their elected positions, and in some instances use these positions to help themselves rather than the citizens they serve. The only way to introduce new ideas is to involve new legislators with a fresh outlook. It seems the longer these people stay in office, the more they become disconnected from the needs of the citizens. This was an issue placed on the ballot by the legislators themselves, and apparently only supported by a minority of citizens.

Just because a couple of newspapers were irresponsible and arrogant enough to dictate to everyone how to vote on this issue did not make their opinion correct. Just like the career politicians, it seems the newspaper is also disconnected from the wants and needs of the citizens of the state.
