Red Cross says supply of blood low in region

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The American Red Cross says two wintry storms in three days have left its northern New England region short of blood.

The Red Cross is struggling to make up a 2,300-pint shortfall for hospitals in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. The weather canceled or disrupted blood drives scheduled for late last week and over the weekend.

Red Cross Northern New England CEO Susan Parmer is asking anyone who is eligible to donate blood to make an extra effort to get out and donate.

To donate blood through the American Red Cross, individuals must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.
