Recalls

These recalls have been announced:

. About 1,000 sterling silver teething rings, made by Empire Silver Co. in the United States, because the silver ball that holds the ring in place can separate and release the beads inside. This poses a choking and aspiration hazard. No injuries or incidents have been reported. The recalled sterling silver teething rings were sold in three styles: single ring with ball, single ring with heart and ball, and three rings with ball. The hollow ring has small beads inside that make a rattling sound. The product was sold at independent jewelry, gift, specialty and department stores nationwide last month. For information, call 800-255-9475 or go to www.empiresilver.com or www.cpsc.gov.

. About 38,250 pressure cookers, imported by Manttra Inc. and made by TTK Prestige Ltd. in India, because the lid can separate and allow hot contents to spill out if the pressure cookers are not closed properly. This poses a risk of burns. Manttra has received two reports of hot contents spilling out of the pressure cookers, resulting in minor burn injuries. The recall involves the Manttra Smart Series five-piece stainless steel multicooker sets. The model No. 38270 is stamped on the base of the 8-quart stainless steel cooker. The pressure cookers were sold at Kohl’s, Robinson’s, Sears and Carson Pirie Scott stores nationwide from June 2003 through April this year. For information, call 877-962-6887 or go to www.manttra.com or www.cpsc.gov.

. About 12,000 Jewel brand girls’ hooded sweat shirts, distributed by Liberty Apparel Co. Inc. and made in India, because the sweat shirts have a drawstring through the hood, which can pose a strangulation hazard. No incidents or injuries have been reported. The sweat shirts were sold in two styles: the “Big Heart” zip-up, long-sleeve hooded sweat shirt in black, light pink and purple colors, and the “Small Stars” long-sleeve hooded jacket sweat shirt in green, khaki, navy and orange colors. The clothing was sold at Marshalls and other specialty children’s clothing retailers nationwide from August through November this year. For information, call 212-768-3030 or go to www.cpsc.gov.
