CMP blames insulator for power outage

PARKMAN – A failed insulator was being blamed Monday for a power outage Sunday night that affected 13,300 people from St. Albans to Greenville and all around Moosehead Lake.

Gail Rice, spokesperson for Central Maine Power, said the insulator failed just before 7 p.m. Sunday, and although it is a simple repair job, all circuits at the Parkman substation had to be shut down to ensure that it was safe to work on.

By feeding some areas out of the Detroit substation, CMP was able to return power to about 3,300 people by 9:15 p.m. The remaining 10,000 people got their service back just after midnight.

Rice said the communities affected included Greenville, Dover-Foxcroft, Dexter, Monson, Abbott, Parkman, Harmony and St. Albans.
