TRAVIS SPENCER
Spencer, a junior on the Belfast wrestling team, won the 189-pound championship at the Sanford Redskin Invitational tournament last weekend. During that 21-team event, Spencer also earned his 100th career victory while helping the Lions finish sixth overall and second among participating Maine teams.
Small School (Classes C-D)
SETH DWYER
Dwyer, a senior guard on the Orono boys basketball team, averaged 31.5 points as the Red Riots picked up victories against Schenck of East Millinocket and John Bapst of Bangor. Dwyer had 27 points and seven rebounds in a 52-48 win over previously unbeaten Schenck, then had 34 points as the Red Riots upended Class B contender John Bapst.
GIRLS
Big School (Classes A-B)
ASHLEY KELLEY
Kelley, a senior center on the Hermon girls basketball team, led the Hawks to two big wins this week. Kelley had 15 points and 12 rebounds in a 51-47 victory over Old Town Monday. She poured in 27 points Saturday as Hermon knocked off previously undefeated John Bapst of Bangor 56-43. The Hawks are now 8-1.
Small School (Classes C-D)
EMILY PELLETIER
A junior guard on the Fort Kent basketball team, Pelletier averaged 23 points per game and hit 16 3-pointers during a stretch in which the Warriors won three games and moved to 6-2 this season. She scored 12 in a 61-58 win over Presque Isle Tuesday night.
