SANGERVILLE – Slippery roads caused a three-car pileup Friday morning at a four-way intersection.

None of the occupants was injured.

Mike Gould, 50, an off-duty Piscataquis County investigator from Sangerville, was traveling on Route 23 in his private vehicle when it was struck broadside by a vehicle driven by Matthew Sylvain, 22, of Abbot, according to Investigator Guy Dow of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.

Dow said Sylvain was traveling down Pleasant Avenue when he failed to stop at the intersection because of icy road conditions. Sylvain’s 1999 Chevrolet van struck Gould’s 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck and the impact forced Gould’s truck into a third vehicle driven by Owen Campbell, 75, of Sangerville. Campbell had stopped at the stop sign on Douty Hill. Campbell’s wife, Shirley, no age provided, was a passenger in his vehicle.

Damage to Gould’s truck and Sylvain’s van was estimated at $8,000 each, while damage to Campbell’s 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck was estimated at $1,000.

All of the people involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, Dow said.

No charges are pending since road conditions were a contributing factor in the accident, Dow said.
