Car stolen in Caribou recovered in Presque Isle

CARIBOU – A vehicle believed stolen from the Caribou area Monday afternoon was found Thursday approximately 18 miles from where it reportedly was taken.

Sgt. Ron Curtis of the Caribou Police Department said Thursday that the 1998 gold Ford Taurus that was taken from the parking lot of the Sleepers Store on Lyndon Street was located by the Presque Isle Police Department in the parking lot of the Aroostook Centre Mall just before 11 a.m.

The vehicle had not been damaged and nothing was missing from inside the car, according to Curtis.

The owner had left the four-door vehicle running with the keys inside while she went into Sleepers to assist two other individuals in picking up some items.

When she returned outside just before 11:30 a.m. Monday, the car was gone.

The department sent out a notice to other police departments throughout the state asking them to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Police received tips earlier in the week that the vehicle had been spotted in New Sweden, but the car was not recovered until Thursday.

Police have no suspects in the case, according to Curtis.
