PRESQUE ISLE – A local man was arrested and charged with several crimes Friday evening after he allegedly walked into a business and fired at least one shot inside the facility.
Sgt. Joey Seeley of the Presque Isle Police Department said in a written statement over the weekend that Walter Stewart, 46, was arrested at Autotech, located at the intersection of Davis and Carmichael streets.
According to Seeley, personnel at the business called 911 after Stewart entered the business just before 3:45 p.m. He reportedly fired at least one shot from a gun and the bullet ricocheted in the facility. No one was injured.
He was charged with aggravated reckless conduct, criminal threatening and aggravated assault, all of which are felonies. He also was summoned for allegedly operating while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs.
Presque Isle police Officers Roger Ellis and Kevin Reed responded to the call and arrested Stewart without incident.
He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail, and bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 surety. Stewart was unable to post bail immediately after the incident and was still in jail Saturday. No further information was available Sunday night.
Reed is the primary investigator on the case, and additional charges may be pending, as the incident remains under investigation.
The officers were assisted at the scene by Seeley and state police Detective Dale Keegan.
