STOCKHOLM – A fire early Tuesday morning destroyed a barn on Main Street.
Fire Chief Jeff Page said that local firefighters and the Caribou Fire Department responded to the 1:15 a.m. call for assistance.
The barn, which belonged to Steve Wimmer, was in flames when firefighters arrived.
“There really was not much we could do,” Page said. “It was almost all burnt by the time we got there.”
The Wimmer family was storing personal vehicles and farm equipment inside the barn.
All of it was destroyed.
Wimmer estimated the fire did more than $100,000 in damage.
The barn was insured, according to the chief, but he was not sure whether the equipment inside the structure was insured.
Firefighters struggled with subzero temperatures at the time of the blaze, according to Page.
No injuries were reported. Firefighters left the scene just after 4 a.m.
Page said the barn had no heat source and speculated that the fire was electrical in nature.
