Beavers pull away for win Torrid foul shooting helps Washburn sink Ashland

ASHLAND – The Washburn Beavers outscored Ashland 19-5 in the fourth quarter, going 8-for-12 from the free-throw line down the stretch, en route to a key 42-31 Class D girls basketball victory over the Hornets Monday night.

Kelsee McLaughlin poured in 17 points to lead Washburn to its 14th victory. Erica McDougall added 13, including eight in the fourth quarter and a 6-for-7 effort from the line.

Mindy Chasse paced Ashland with 17 points.

Lee senior Karin Bird scored nine points, including the 1,000th of her career midway through the first quarter. She needed five points going into the game.

Aarika Ritchie tossed in 16 points for Lee and Amanda Gifford added 13.

Kayla Stevens paced the Cougars of Stacyville with 14 points followed by Olivia McNally with 13.
