To imply that “heavy truck payments and the loss of a job” can cause a man to allegedly kick his girlfriend repeatedly, set fire to a truck and shoot at his home up to 40 times is irresponsible journalism. If every person who was saddled with financial difficulties reacted in this way, there would be cars blazing and shots fired in every Maine neighborhood today.
Considering the sad fact that we lost two Maine people to domestic violence just last week, I believe the Bangor Daily News should report the real reasons behind domestic violence – that one person in a relationship believes it is their right to intimidate, control and frighten their partner in order to have power and control over the person they supposedly love. Please do not continue to perpetrate myths around domestic violence. It is a disservice to the community and an insult to all whose lives have been impacted by partner violence.
