Presque Isle upsets Old Town

PRESQUE ISLE – Sarah Porter’s bucket with 30 seconds remaining in the game lifted the Presque Isle girls basketball team to a regular-season ending 45-44 upset victory over Old Town Friday night.

Allison Dean led Presque Isle with 15 points. Amy Michaud added 11 points for the Wildcats.

Sarah Wilcox paced Old Town with 14 points while Jenna King had 12.

At Millar Arena in Houlton, Zoe Fisk scored two goals to rally the Tigers past the Black Hawks, who had taken a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes.

Gardiner scored the next four goals before Houlton-Hodgdon tallied again before the end of the second period. All seven goals were scored on the power play.

Bobby Johnson and Forrest Chadwick also scored for the Tigers, while Kevin May, Klinton Peckham, Klayton Peckham and Scott Hickey each had an assist. Chris Howe made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Craig Buxton posted a goal and an assist for the Black Hawks with Zach Chase and Nick Chase getting a goal each. Ben Ward, Jake Peabody, Mike Epley and Morgan Hall posted assists. Malik Abouleish made 24 saves on 28 shots.

Boys basketball

Katahdin 49, So. Aroostook 47

At Stacyville, Brandon Robinson hit two free throws in with about a minute left to break a 47-47 tie and give Katahdin the victory over Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.

Evan McCarthy paced the Cougars with 13 points and Tom Anderson added 12 points.

Dakota Sleeper scored 25 points for the Warriors and Colby Clark had 10 points.

At Presque Isle, Mamadou Ba made a layup after being fouled with eight seconds left to tie it at 41-41 and made the free throw to give Old Town the lead and win over Presque Isle.

Ba finished with nine points while Ethan Shanley led all scorers with 17 points for the Coyotes.

Adam Kingsbury led Presque Isle with 16 points and Russ Mortland chipped in 10 points.
