Martin helps Calais blank Woodland 2-0

CALAIS – Goalie Lanna Martin earned her second consecutive shutout as the Calais Blue Devils blanked the Woodland Dragons 2-0 in schoolgirl soccer action Friday. Martin is taking over for Katie Welch who is injured.

Martin stopped 11 of 17 shots for 5-1-1 Calais. Katie Frost and Danielle Feck scored in the first and second halves of the game respectively. Morgan Drew added an assist.

Beth Covey blocked four of 19 shots for 3-3 Woodland.

Lee Academy 2, Katahdin 0

At Lee, Katie Harris earned her fifth shutout in seven games to lead the Pandas to victory.

Shelby Pickering and Melissa Hanscom scored in the first half for Lee Academy. Deidra Ham added an assist.

Harris stopped all seven shots she faced for 7-0 Lee Academy. She has allowed just two goals this season. Megan Libby blocked seven of 14 shots for 4-3-1 Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Boys soccer

Shead 2, Calais 0

At Eastport, Ben Maloney and Peter Graves each scored first-half goals for the Tigers.

Darrin Constant stopped 18 of 26 shots to earn his third shutout of the season for 5-2 Shead. Nathan Pelletier blocked 11 of 13 shots for 5-2 Calais.

Sumner 3, Narraguagus 0

At Harrington, Roland Albee tallied a goal and an assist as the Tigers topped the Knights.

Carlos Valencial and Roger Sargent notched goals and Trevor Renwick had an assist for 3-3-2 Sumner of East Sullivan. Jason Guest recorded six saves on 14 shots.

For 2-6 Narraguagus, Eric Peltier made 13 saves on 21 shots.

Piscataquis 4, Schenck 1

At Guilford, Kyle Pulkkinen scored two goals and assisted on another to help Piscataquis Community avenge an earlier 1-0 loss at the hands of the Wolverines.

Josh Herrick and Harper Hoffman tallied the other goals for the 4-2-2 Pirates. Jon Prescott added an assist while Josh Luellen made six saves on nine shots.

Tyler Thompson converted a Chad McLaughlin feed for 1-5 Schenck of East Millinocket. Mike Rossignol made 16 saves on 20 shots.

Bangor Christian 8, Averill 2

At Bangor, the Patriots improved to 4-3-1 behind multi-goal games from Ben Sobey, Tyler Dean, and Kliton Xhemali.

Sobey had two goals and assist, while Dean added two goals. Xhemali contributed three goals and an assist in the winning effort. Matt Conley added a goal and four assists.

John Chartier scored both goals for Averill with one assist coming from his brother, Jeff Chartier.

Aaron Wilson stopped four of 10 shots for 4-3-1 Bangor Christian. Josh Tedescoe had 14 saves on 43 shots for 2-4 Averill of Hinckley.

DI-S 2, Searsport 2 (2OT)

At Searsport, Jon Klemene of Deer Isle-Stonington recorded an unassisted goal with nine minutes remaining to tie the game and end the scoring.

Brady Ballow chipped in with another unassisted goal for the 3-4-2 Mariners. Chris Gross made 10 saves on 21 shots.

For 3-4-1 Searsport, Pasco Grove chalked up a goal and an assist. Drew Mercier added a goal, and Jacob Manner stopped four of 10 shots.

Hampden 4, Orono 1

At Orono, four different players registered unassisted goals as the Broncos blanked the Red Riots.

Peter Macone, Chris Walker, Mike Binekey, and Brynjar Hardarson netted the goals for Hampden. Kenny Mayo turned away three of four shots.

Alyosha Klose converted a Branislav Srnka pass for Orono’s lone goal. Mike Merritt made eight saves on 12 shots.

MDI 2, Old Town 1 (2OT)

At Old Town, Da Chang led the Trojans to the double overtime victory with his second goal of the game.

Chang scored with 1:30 left in the first half to tie the game at one apiece. Chang scored the game-winner 49 minutes later off a Cody Stratton assist. Matt Petrie scored for Old Town with 32:00 remaining in the first half.

Adam Thurston stopped 10 of the 17 shots he faced for 5-0-2 MDI. Tyler Tracewski stopped 10 of 15 shots for 1-6-1 Old Town.

JV: 1-1 (2OT)

Penobscot Valley 3, Penquis 2

At Howland, Garret Lavertu’s second goal of the game with 3:50 remaining in the contest proved to be the game winner for the Howlers.

Dustin Nicholson scored in the first half off a Keith Champion assist for Penobscot Valley. Jared Michaud assisted on the winning goal. James Rackley added an assist.

Justin Allen and Steve Kissell each scored for Penquis of Milo. Colby Chase contributed an assist.

Lance Pelkey stopped 12 of 14 shots for 6-1-1 Penobscot Valley. Mike Grindle and Kevin Nason combined to block 12 of 15 shots for the 5-2-1 Patriots.

Men’s college soccer

UM-Presque Isle 6, MMA 1

At Presque Isle, Brad Holibird registered a goal and an assist to lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle over Maine Maritime Academy of Castine.

The 4-1 Owls also received goals from Aaron Miller, Brock Caton, Tim Frost, Matt Bouchard, and Dan Emerson. Darren Belskis and Ben Goodwin added assists while Jon Cole and Tim Dolley combined for five saves on six shots.

For 1-4 Maine Maritime, Wells Baker scored on a pass from Derek Wilding. Daniel Loebel stopped eight of 15 attempts.

College field hockey

Thomas 3, St. Joseph’s 2

At Waterville, Meredith Arute’s goal with under a minute remaining in the game gave the Terriers a 3-2 victory.

The winning goal was assisted by Erin Lovely and Jessica Strout and was Arute’s second of the game. Lovely also scored a goal for Thomas.

Daven Clawson scored two first-half goals for the Monks. Adrienne LaFond and Amanda Thompson each notched an assist for St. Joseph’s of Standish.

Dee Kelly stopped of six of 15 shots for 3-1 Thomas. Laura Lombardi blocked 12 of 21 shots for 2-3 St. Joseph’s.
