Place leads Bates past UMF men

FARMINGTON – Scott Place poured in 20 points and Bryan Wholey 17 as Bates College pulled away in the second half for an 85-69 men’s basketball victory over UMaine-Farmington Tuesday night.

Alex Gallant of Bangor netted 12 points and Brian Ellis 11 for the Bobcats.

Ted Neil paced UMaine-Farmington with 16 points, while Isaac Hutchinson added 13 and Matt St. John 11.

At Waterville, Michael Burchill of Saco hit seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 29 points to lead the Terriers past the University of Maine-Presque Isle.

Andrew Duncanson posted 17 points and 10 rebounds for 9-13 Thomas.

Michael Latchford had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the 3-15 Owls.

At Waterville, Alison Cappelloni scored a career-high 28 points and led the Colby White Mules past Thomas College in an overtime game.

Katie McCabe had 19 points and 21 rebounds for the Mules.

Karen Demers scored 17 and Cortney Barrett had 16 for the Terriers.
