Doucette goal lifts St. Joe’s by Husson

STANDISH – Katie Doucette converted a Kelly Cyr cross with 32:19 remaining in the second half to lift St. Joseph’s College to a 3-2 women’s soccer victory over Husson College Sunday.

Kelly Cyr and Kelly Primo registered goals and Beth Dallaire contributed two assists as the Monks improved to 4-2-0. Marissa Regan turned back 10 shots.

Kristin Pelletier scored both goals for the 3-3-0 Braves. Katy Calligan assisted her second goal. Meg Taylor had 23 saves.

UM-Machias 4, Thomas 2

At Waterville Saturday, Christina Rich and Emma Apatu chalked up two goals and an assist each for the 7-0 Clippers. Tricia Farrell stopped 11 of 16 shots.

For 2-5 Thomas, Tricia Cyr and Katie Morrell logged one goal apiece and Tiff Nelson and Jen Cray had assists. Kendra Pelow turned back 14 of 18 shots.

UM-Machias 1, UMF 0

At Machias Sunday, Christina Rich’s second-half goal lifted the Clippers to victory. Tricia Farrell made 20 saves on 34 shots for the winners while UMF’s Alyson Pontbriand made six saves on eight shots.

Colby 3, Tufts 0

At Waterville, Colby goalie Abby Kussell stopped 11 of 18 Tufts shots as the White Mules won.

Stephanie Hicks led 3-1 Colby with a goal and an assist. Christine O’Donnell and Lauren Gremelspacher each added an assist.

Rhode Island College 2, USM 0

At Providence, R.I., Elena Sanborn and Alexis Bouchard each scored a second-half goal to lead the 4-1-2 Anchorwomen. Marcy Ansley stopped six of 10 shots for 3-4 Southern Maine.

Green Mountain 6, St. Joseph’s 0

At Standish, Lisa Richards netted two goals as the Eagles cruised to the win. Sarah Allen and Ginger Kelly combined for saves on five shots for the 5-2 winners.

Marissa Regan stopped 22 of 34 shots for the 3-2 Monks.

Maine 4, Stony Brook 1

At Orono, Annie Hamel scored two goals, including one of the three Black Bears’ goals in the second half, as Maine topped Stony Brook Sunday.

Maija Kaldro and Linda Consolante each added a goal for the 3-1-1 Black Bears. Kim Walsh and Katie Hodge had two assists apiece. Naomi Welsh saved four of seven shots.

Lauren Canino scored for the 0-4-1 Seawolves with 14 seconds left and Lori Nelson made six of 18 shots.

Lyndon State 2, Thomas 1

At Waterville Sunday, Erin Tinker knocked in the game-winner with 3:21 left in regulation to lift the Hornets of Lyndonville, Vt. Maggie Scott made 10 saves on 16 shots.

Sarah Hopkins scored off an assist from Amy Young in the first half for the Terriers. Kendra Pelow stopped 19 of 24 shots.

Unity 5, UM-Augusta 2

At Unity Saturday, Sarah Thornbury recorded a hat trick as the Rams topped the Moose.

Kyla LaPlante and Tasha Benoit chipped in with a goal and an assist each. Rom Harrison turned away eight of 10 UM-Augusta attempts.

Stacey Greenleaf and Amy Brown booted home the UMA goals. Amy Degan recorded 18 saves on 23 shots.

Men’s soccer

UM-Farmington 2, UMM 0

At Machias Sunday, Brian Mawhinney scored two goals for the Beavers as they shut out the Clippers.

Andrew Swift made 18 saves on 26 shots for 0-8 UM-Machias.

Thomas 7, UM-Machias 2

At Waterville Saturday, Lucas Levesque racked up four goals, including two in the first 2:10 of the game, as the Terriers cruised.

Ben Wheeler, Tom Healey and Rick Kelley also scored for 3-5 Thomas. Healey and Wheeler each tallied an assist. Ryan Conley made 10 saves on 16 shots.

Matt Salyer and Brett Haworth each scored a goal for the 0-7 Clippers. Andrew Swift stopped 14 of 27 shots.

Tufts 2, Colby 0

At Waterville, Jumbos’ goalie Scott Conroy saved five of the White Mules’ 10 shots to earn the shutout for 3-1 Tufts.

Andy Danziger made 12 saves on 23 shots for 1-3 Colby.

USM 0, Rhode Island College 0

At Gorham, Jeff Gray and Dan Hills combined for four saves on 14 shots for 1-6-1 Southern Maine.

UMass 7, Maine 0

At Amherst, Mass., Jeff Deren knocked in two goals and added an assist to power the Minutemen past the Black Bears.

Bryan O’Quinn and Enzo Altomare combined for three saves on four shots for 4-2 UMass.

Mat Cosgriff stopped two of 22 shots for 1-3 Maine.

Elms 3, Maine Maritime 1

At Castine, Adriano dos Santos and Robbie Gomes booted in a goal and an assist each as Elms College of Chicopee, Mass., topped the Mariners Sunday.

Josh McConnell recorded three saves on seven shots for the 3-2 Blazers. For 1-4 Maine Maritime, Wels Baker scored on a direct kick. Dan Loebel stopped eight of 23 shots.

Green Mountain 8, Husson 0

At Bangor, Paul Araigi scored three goals and Peter Anderson added two more as Green Mountain rolled over the Braves.

Matt Romiger made nine saves on 13 shots for Green Mountain. Cliff Urquhart stopped 20 of 28 shots for Husson.

Volleyball

Maine splits two matches

At Newark, Del., the University of Maine posted a grueling five-game win over Maryland-Baltimore County before falling to St. Peters in four games in action at the Delaware Invitational on Saturday. Maine is 4-6.

Leah Voss piled up 21 kills and Carmen Gabriel added 16 more as the Black Bears earned a 26-30, 30-24, 26-30, 30-25, 15-10 win over Maryland-Baltimore County. Setter Cheryl Elliott handed out 54 assists in the match.

In Saturday’s second match, the Black Bears received 17 kills and seven digs from Voss and 10 kills from Adrienne Poplawski while falling to St. Peter’s, 24-30, 30-19, 31-29, 30-14. Elliott tallied 35 assists and Marina Ivankovic made 12 digs.

Field hockey

Colby 3, Tufts 1

At Waterville, Becca Bruce scored twice as the undefeated White Mules rolled. Wendy Bonner added a goal for 4-0 Colby.

USM 3, Eastern Connecticut 2

At Mansfield, Conn., Sarah Dolley’s goal with four minutes left in regulation proved to be the game-winner for the Huskies.

Sasha Ilkovich and Laura Jurkowski each scored a goal to give Southern Maine a 2-0 lead in the second half. Deedra Beveridge and Jurkowski chipped in with assists.

UM-Farmington 2, Husson 1 OT)

At Bangor, Erica Gunderson’s goal 6:09 into overtime gave the Beavers the win over the Braves.

The goal came when Gunderson found herself open in front of the goal. Her shot hit off the left post and trickled into the goal. Dorice Reitchel assisted on the play. Kate Bernier’s goal with 4:20 left in the game sent the match into overtime.

Fawn Albert save five of six shots for 4-2 UMaine-Farmington.

Nikki Corson had opened the scoring for Husson when she slapped in a rebound. Shanni Hollins stopped 17 of 19 shots for 2-1 Husson.
