Sea Dogs mascot joins in cancer fundraiser

PORTLAND – Portland Sea Dogs mascot Slugger is getting in shape to help 2008 Olympic hopeful Emily LeVan in her quest to raise $52,400.

The Sea Dogs and the Bay Club are helping LeVan’s run to raise money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program in her Two Trials fundraising program.

Slugger the Sea Dog will attempt to fun 5 kilometers in under 26.2 minutes on March 17.

As LeVan prepared for the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials, her 4-year-old daughter, Maddie, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is undergoing treatment through the Maine Children’s Cancer Program and the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.

Slugger, LeVan and the Bay Club will be available at the Bay Club today at 1 p.m. as Slugger begins his training session with LeVan.
