David J. Dunning of S.W. Cole Engineering Inc. in Hermon has been elected president of the Maine Chapter of the Society for the Marketing of Professional Services for 2001-2002. Jennifer Sheffer of The Ames Corp. in Bangor also has been elected an at-large board member.

SMPS (www.smps.org) was founded in 1973 and today has more than 5,000 members in 48 chapters nationwide. The members are marketing professionals in architectural, engineering, planning, interior design, construction, environmental, specialty consultant, accounting and law firms. SMPS provides education, information and resources in marketing professional services for the built and natural environment.

Stephen W. Cole, P.E., of Hermon has been awarded the 2001 Maine Civil Engineer of the Year Award for significant contributions to civil engineering in Maine by the Maine Section of the American Society of Civil Engineering. Cole is president and senior geotechnical engineer at S.W. Cole Engineering Inc., a geosciences firm with offices in Maine and New Hampshire.

ASCE was founded to develop leadership, advance technology and advocate lifelong learning in the field of civil engineering.
