Sebago man charged in dog attack on officer

SEBAGO – A local man faces multiple charges after allegedly ordering his pit bull to attack a sheriff’s deputy who was serving a protection-from-abuse order.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Joshua Potvin arrived at the home of Ricky Norton, 49, late Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Norton commanded the dog to attack, but Potvin was protected by a bulletproof vest when the dog lunged at his chest. The dog then attacked Potvin’s legs, and the deputy later received stitches for a leg wound at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Police say Norton faces five counts, including assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm by a felon. The dog has been placed in quarantine.
