ORONO – Maine Maritime Academy of Castine got solid efforts from Amanda Barker and Danielle Richard en route to a sweep of Fisher College and UMaine-Presque Isle at the Mahaney Dome Saturday.
The Mariners beat Fisher 16-1 and then tipped the Owls 3-1.
In the first game, Barker struck out 11, breaking the school record for strikeouts in a game, and allowed one hit in five innings.
Barker also went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Nicole Poland added three RBIs. Danielle Richard, Brittany Hunt and Hillary Arris each added two RBIs. Jackie Streeter had the lone hit for Fisher.
In the second game, Barker fanned eight while scattering five hits in five innings. She also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Richard earned the save and recorded an RBI.
Erica Davis paced UMPI with three hits. Nicole Russell took the loss, scattering six hits in six innings. Two of MMA’s runs were unearned.
Texas Tech. 6, Maine 3
At Honolulu, Hawaii, the Black Bears concluded play in the Hawaii Spring Fling Tournament with a 6-3 loss to the Red Raiders of Texas Tech on Saturday.
After spotting the Red Raiders a 6-0 lead following the fourth inning, Maine scored a run in the fifth and tallied a pair in the sixth on a two-run base hit by Courtney Gingrich.
Black Bear infielder Ashley Waters was named to the Hawaii Spring Fling All-Tournament Team. Waters posted a .385 average during the week and homered in back-to-back games against nationally ranked North Carolina and Texas.
Husson drops four
At Kissimmee, Fla., the Eagles dropped four games this past weekend at the Rebel Games, losing to Denison University 8-2, SUNY-Oneonta 15-0, Manhattanville College 8-0 and Transylvania University 15-1.
Molly Sack had two singles and a home run to lead Denison by Husson. Shawna Bell doubled and singled with an RBI for the Eagles.
SUNY-Oneonta was led by Katie Hackenburg with three hits and three RBIs. Jenny Rollins had a double for Husson.
Jaclyn Senzino had eight strikeouts to earn the shutout for Manhattanville. Bell, Cassie Berry and Carolyn McAvoy each singled for the Eagles.
Transylvania was led by Kendra DeArk with three hits. Brittni Adams led Husson with a double and a single.

At Tampa Bay, Fla., Dennis Graham had a double and two singles with three RBIs to lead Husson by Centenary 10-7 on Friday.
The Eagles were defeated by Salem State 7-3 earlier in the day.
In the first game, Anthony Palm led Salem State with two hits and five RBIs.
Jeff Miller and Chris Maguire each tallied two hits and an RBI for Husson.
In the second game, Maguire had two hits and drove in two runs. Ethan Guerette posted a pair of hits while Brian McGinley had a hit and two RBIs for the Eagles.
