Garbage litters Route 15 Trail of trash result of road conditions

It was a bumpy ride Wednesday morning that left a trail of trash from Charleston to Corinth.

A truck owned by WFT garbage and rubbish removal of Levant was on its way from Dover-Foxcroft to the Penobscot Energy Recovery Co. incinerator in Orrington around 8 a.m. with a load of household waste. Some morning commuters had to dodge bags that had fallen into the roadway, but the birds delighted in the feast that was spread across Route 15.

“The truck hit such big bumps,” WFT owner Malcolm McGraw said. The canvas covering the container was strapped down with bungee cords that came loose from hitting so many frost heaves, he explained.

About 20 bags of trash spilled out into the roadway and in the breakdown lane, but McGraw said his brother later went back with a pickup truck and retrieved the trash.

“When it takes a thrashing, it’s just not good,” McGraw said.
