WASHINGTON – By a vote of 97-0, the U.S. Senate passed a $10.5 billion military construction bill Wednesday that contains $93.6 million for military construction projects in Maine. The amount for fiscal year 2002 is 17.5 percent more than this year’s spending. The House approved it 401-1 last Friday.

In a joint press release, Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins said the measure contains funding for the following Maine projects:

. $11.61 million for the Army Aviation Support Facility located in Bangor. The funding will be used to meet urgent requirements for support of the Maine National Guard’s four aviation units and its assigned aircraft.

. $41.665 million for the construction of a new aircraft maintenance hangar to replace two World War II-vintage hangars built of wood at the Brunswick Naval Air Station.

. $22.63 million for a new transient bachelor enlisted quarters to house junior and enlisted sailors at Brunswick Naval Air Station.

. $14.62 million for the construction of bachelor enlisted quarters at the Kittery-Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. These quarters will be used to house junior enlisted permanent party personnel (E1-E4) on base and transient personnel, as well as junior enlisted sailors during an overhaul or maintenance availability.

. $3.1 million for a P-3 support facility at Brunswick Naval Air Station.
