A Milford teenager who goes to Orono High School was caught hacking into the school’s server Thursday morning and charged with criminal invasion of computer privacy.

“He knowingly accessed an Orono High School system server, which compromised the logins and passwords of Orono High School students,” Sgt. Scott Wilcox of the Orono Police Department said.

Michael Noddin, 18, was given a summons for the offense by school resource Officer Andrew Whitehouse.

Criminal invasion of computer privacy occurs whenever someone “accesses any computer resource knowing they are not authorized to do so,” Wilcox said.

An Alton teenager attempting to lend a hand with cleaning up the yard started a half-acre fire on the Bennoch Road around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, fire officials said.

The juvenile male was “trying to be helpful,” Forest Ranger Jerry Carsons said. “There was no malicious intent.”

Carsons said a slight wind helped to spread the fire, which was quickly extinguished by local firefighters. As an annual reminder about the dangers of wildfires, next Sunday kicks off Wildfire Prevention Week, he said, adding that “any outdoor burning requires a burn permit from fire officials.” To prevent fires from spreading, most departments don’t issue permits for burns to start until after 5 p.m., the forest ranger said.
