Team from Orono shows real imagination

ORONO – The D.I. Challengers from Asa Adams Elementary School took first place in the Obstacles, Of Course competition during the state Destination Imagination finals April 19 at the University of Maine.

Teams from all over the state competed in five challenges at the elementary, middle and secondary school levels.

The Asa Adams team placed first among seven teams competing. Team members designed and built a vehicle and an obstacle course, and presented a nonverbal skit that portrayed overcoming obstacles.

The D.I. Challengers earned a spot competing at DI Global Finals, to be held May 20-24 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn. They will meet and compete against teams from all over the United States, as well as several foreign countries.

In an effort to defray the cost of the trip, the D.I. Challengers will hold a bottle drive Saturday, May 3, in Orono neighborhoods, as well as accepting donations, at Skeeter’s Redemption Center on Stillwater Avenue in Old Town, until May 19.
