Sleeper helps SAHS open with victory over Eagles

LIMESTONE – Righthander Dakota Sleeper allowed only two hits and struck out 16 to lead Southern Aroostook to a 3-2 high school baseball win Monday over the Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Cody Robinson and Josh Branscombe each hit RBI singles in the third inning for the winners of Dyer Brook.

Righthander Matt Enman also turned in a strong pitching performance for the Eagles as he allowed only two hits while striking out 12 and walking one. Chris Parent hit a two-run single in the first inning.

Ashland 13, Hodgdon 2

At Ashland, Henry Milligan hit a triple and three singles while driving in two runs and scoring three times as Ashland defeated Hodgdon.

Jeremy Tarr and Tony Baker combined for no earned runs on two hits and 11 strikeouts through five innings for Ashland.

Ashland’s Justin Belanger hit a two-run home run and Carl Nemer added a two-run double.

Ryan Wellington tripled to pace Hodgdon and Jamie Ryan singled.

Foxcroft 7-2, Presque Isle 6-3

At Dover-Foxcroft Saturday, Ryan Olmstead slapped an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Ponies a 7-6 victory in the opener of a doubleheader. Presque Isle won the nightcap 3-2.

In the first game, Ian Champeon had two singles and an RBI and Jamie Nason two doubles, a single and RBI for the Ponies.

Bennett Cassidy led the Wildcats with three singles, a double and RBI while Adam Kingsbury had two singles and an RBI and Ethan Braley three singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Cassidy doubled and singled as Presque Isle earned a split.

Dillon Kingsbury and Braley each singled for the winners; Nason had an RBI single and Wade Witham a double for the Ponies.

At Stacyville, Tom Anderson tripled and singled to knock in a run as Katahdin cruised in a mutual opener.

Ethan Qualey had two singles and two RBIs and Josh Guiggey two singles for the Cougars.

Ian Towle and Corey Everett singled for Fort Fairfield.

At Mars Hill, Cameron York slapped a two-run triple as the Panthers held off Madawaska.

Logan McLaughlin chipped in with two singles and an RBI for Central Aroostook.

Jeff Cyr knocked a two-run home run and two singles for the Owls.

At Houlton, Joe Gilley hit a solo home run and a single and scored four runs to lift Penobscot Valley over Houlton.

Nevin Jipson hit a three-run homer in the first inning for the Howlers and Grant Sherman added two singles. Aaron Saucier and Dylan Worster combined for 12 strikeouts.

Matt Boubier and Levi Prosser each singled twice for Houlton.

At Stacyville, Jasmine Pelletier doubled and singled while driving in two runs and scoring three more to lift Katahdin over Fort Fairfield.

Kayla Stevens singled and scored two runs for the Cougars.

Maryl Shaw hit three singles for Fort Fairfield. Kelsie York and Shannon Towle both singled twice.

Ashley Estabrook hit a double and a single and drove in two runs for the Panthers. Rachel Donohue added a two-run single.

Ashley Cyr hit an RBI single for Madawaska and Stephanie Nadeau singled.

At Ashland, Whitney Flint spun a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking only two while aiding her cause with a three-run homer, RBI double and RBI single as Ashland cruised in its opener.

Mindy Chasse singled twice to knock in two runs while Andrea Mayo went 4-for-4 with two singles, a double, triple and an RBI.

Taylor Hovey and Amanda Ryan singled for Hodgdon.

At Howland, Casey McCloskey pitched a two-hitter, striking out 14. She also hit two singles and a game winning triple in the bottom of the seventh to pace the Howlers over Houlton.

Lyndsey Drost added two singles for the winners.

Laney Herring hit a two run triple and an RBI single for the Shiretowners.

At Limestone, Victoria St. Pierre led a 14-hit attack with two singles, a double, and three RBIs for Limestone Community School/Maine School of Science and Mathematics.

Kellie Peers had three singles and three RBIs for the Eagles. Melanie Allen hit a two-run homer and singled for three RBIs, and Dawn McDonald added two singles and three RBIs.

Karen Grant and Sara Crandall each had a double, single, and two RBIs for Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook.

At Harrington, the Knights rallied to win in the bottom of the seventh after Jonesport-Beals had tied the score in the top half.

Kim Greene got it started with a bunt single, stole second then came around to score the winning run on Andrea Perry’s double.

Jessica Tenan doubled and singled for Narraguagus; Whitney Norton had a double and single for Jonesport-Beals.

At Eastport, Julia Nicholas hit for the cycle with a single, double, triple and grand slam to lead the Dragons to victory.

Nicholas finished with eight RBIs and added another single. Courtney Cochran chipped in with seven RBIs with three triples and two home runs and Cali Anthony drove in four runs with four singles and a triple.

A single by Shead’s Shelly Melanson drove in Dorothy Pottle, who also singled.

At Belfast, freshman Vicky Overlock pitched a no hitter in her first varsity start. The righthander allowed just three walks and struck out four as Belfast shut out Rockland.

Christine Hill and Dominique Haver each had two singles and three RBIs for Belfast. Haley Rae tripled and singled with two runs scored.
