An Old Town man was released on bail Wednesday after spending a night in jail on a criminal trespass charge.
According to Bangor police, Daniel Pearce Babcock, 41, refused despite several requests to leave Eastern Maine Medical Center after being treated Tuesday for unspecified injuries or illness. Bangor police Officer Jason Linkletter was at the hospital that day to follow up on an unrelated matter when he saw Babcock acting unruly and becoming increasingly upset.
Babcock said he needed a ride back to Old Town and wanted to use the telephone. A telephone was made available to him, but he was not able to contact the person he had planned to get a ride from. Babcock then allegedly began swearing and being belligerent.
After Babcock again was asked – and refused – to leave the hospital, Linkletter arrested him and took him to Penobscot County Jail. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)
