WA rallies past Sumner Two-run seventh inning proves decisive for Raiders

EAST MACHIAS – Kayla Wood’s RBI groundout tied it in the bottom of the seventh and Andi Flannery followed with an RBI single as Washington Academy rallied for 8-7 softball win over Sumner of East Sullivan Tuesday.

Wood finished with an RBI triple and run-scoring single and Flannery singled twice for the Raiders.

Lona Sargent hit a two-run home run and a double for the Tigers of East Sullivan and Kayla Higgins added a solo homer. Morgan Traxler chipped in with a triple, single and RBI.

At Ellsworth, Jen Richter hit a home run and singled to lead the Eagles. Pitcher Ashley Smith had two singles and drove in the winning run scored by Richter in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Whitney Sinclair had 2 singles, Abby Perkins hit a double and Sheila Toomey added a triple for the Crusaders.

Old Town 8, Bucksport 1

At Bucksport, Hannah Morin pitched a complete game allowing one run on five hits to propel Old Town by Bucksport.

Amy Singer tallied two doubles, a single and three RBIs for Old Town. Micayla Hussey had a triple and a single with an RBI while Jenna Winegardner hit three singles for the Coyotes.

Meagan Harriman and Rochelle Pelletier each hit two singles for Bucksport while Catie Denning had a triple.

At Foxcroft, Emma Damon posted three singles and drove in two runs to lead Mount Desert Island by Foxcroft Academy.

Megan Simpson had two singles and two RBIs for the Trojans while MacKenzie Curtis added two singles.

Sam Snyder had a double and two RBIs for Foxcroft Academy while Courtney Withee hit two singles.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Ian Champeon tossed a complete-game seven-hitter and Ryan Olmsted belted a two-run triple in the fifth inning as Foxcroft Academy built a 7-0 lead and held on to edge Mount Desert Island.

Wade Witham had three singles, Champeon had two singles and an RBI and Josh Conroy had a run-scoring double for the winners.

Sam Stewart tripled and singled for MDI. Josh DeLaittre doubled and singled, Steve Zirnkilton had a two-run double and Danny Dunn doubled and had a sacrifice fly.

At East Machias, Washington Academy pitchers combined to allow one run on four hits as the Raiders defeated Sumner of East Sullivan.

Bryce Colbeth doubled and singled for the Raiders. Mike Lenfesty hit two singles while Dan Seamans added a double.

Kenny Ingalls, Mickey Manning, John Matson and Matt Manning singled for Sumner.

At Bucksport, the Bucksport Golden Bucks had the bases loaded with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Dana Leland escaped with just one run on a passed ball and earned the save.

After the run scored with one out, Leland issued an intentional walk to reload the bases and then retired the last two batters on a popout and groundout.

Leland also led the offense with a double, a single, and three RBIs for the Coyotes. Tyler Cates had a double, single and three runs scored.

Eddie Robbins had two singles and an RBI for the Bucks.
