This week I am the bearer of bad news, and it’s much worse than the fact that Syesha, my final “American Idol” pick, was voted off the show.
Unfortunately, Regis Philbin will be host to yet another game show starting next month.
“Million Dollar Password” is listed under this season’s summer reality lineup (I’m not sure when game shows became reality TV, but we’ll go with it) and is set to air at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 1, on CBS.
The former “Who Wants to Be a Millionare” host will take on the new game that also has the potential to award contestants $1 million in a challenge that combines TV classics “Password” and “Pyramid.”
The other bad news – it doesn’t look like there’s much else on TV during the Sunday night time slot. We can be thankful that it’s summer and still will be light enough out to mow the lawn instead of sitting on the couch.
But this season’s lineup doesn’t appear to be all bad. Several old favorites are returning for new seasons and a few new shows have potential.
For instance, if you’re looking for birth control, NBC is just the place.
“The Baby Borrowers” will take five young couples and give them a chance to see what it’s like to be a grown-up and a parent.
The catch is that their lives will be put in fast-forward as the couples set up a home, get a job, become parents to babies, toddlers, preteens and their pets, teenagers and care for senior citizens all over the course of three weeks.
The show is set to air at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, on NBC.
For those who would rather watch animals than people, check out the fourth season of “Meerkat Manor” or a new one on CBS that puts canines on center stage as they compete for $250,000. “Greatest American Dog” premieres at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10.
And in saving the best for last, the lost footage from “The Real Housewives of New York City” has been found and will be shown at 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, on Bravo.
I’m not convinced it ever really was lost, but Bravo’s publicity pushers (I love them!) said there will be plenty of never-seen footage that includes more fights and funnies, and an extended version of the drama between high-maintenance housewives Ramona and Jill. I can’t think of a better way to end the season.
