Commencement ceremonies for colleges, universities listed

The following is a list of graduations at Maine colleges and universities:

University of Maine

at Farmington

155th commencement at 10:30 a.m. May 17, outdoors behind Olsen Student Center. UMF’s Fitness and Recreation Center with limited admission in the event of inclement weather. Those with Dearborn Gym tickets are invited to watch the ceremony live over closed-circuit TV inside UMF’s Dearborn Gym. UMF’s commencement ceremony will be broadcast live on MBTV, community access Channel 11, whether the ceremony is held indoors or outdoors. For information, call 778-7276 or 778-7256.

Commencement speaker: Sally Goodrich, a Vermont educator who, after her son died in the World Trade Center attacks, found hope in dedicating her life to helping the children of Afghanistan. Details of Goodrich’s efforts in war-ravaged Afghanistan have appeared recently in The Boston Globe, BBC World Service and Reader’s Digest. She was named ABC News’ Person of the Week in 2005.

Washington County

Community College, Calais

Commencement at 11 a.m. May 16, Calais High School.

Commencement speaker: Glenn Cummings, speaker of the Maine House of Representatives.

Kennebec Valley

Community College, Fairfield

Commencement at 10 a.m. May 17, Augusta Civic Center.

Commencement speaker: Sara Burns, president and CEO of Central Maine Power Co.

Northern Maine Community College, Presque Isle

Commencement at 10 a.m. May 17, NMCC gymnasium.

York County Community College, Wells

Commencement at 10 a.m. May 17, YCCC campus.

Commencement speaker: Glenn Cummings, speaker of the Maine House of Representatives.

Southern Maine Community College, South Portland

Commencement at noon May 17, Cumberland County Civic Center, Portland.

Commencement speaker: Kevin Sweeney, chairman of the English department.

Eastern Maine Community College, Bangor

Commencement at 1 p.m. May 17, Bangor Auditorium.

Commencement speaker: Thomas Swieczkowski, EMCC’s 2008 Student of the Year

College of the Atlantic,

Bar Harbor

Commencement at 2 p.m. June 7, on the college’s North Lawn.

Commencement speaker: JoAnne Carpenter, COA faculty member in art and art history who is retiring after 35 years.

Bangor Theological

Seminary

189th commencement at 1 p.m. May 16, State Street Congregational Church in Portland.

Commencement speaker: Mathew Meyer Boulton, author and assistant professor of ministry studies at Harvard Divinity School. An ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he also serves as associate pastor and director of music for Hope Church in Roslindale, Mass.

Colby College, Waterville

187th commencement at 10 a.m. May 25, Miller Library lawn (Alfond Athletic Center in the event of inclement weather).

Commencement speaker: Robert E. Diamond Jr., who majored in economics at Colby and is president of Barclays PLC, the London-based financial services firm, and chief executive of Investment Banking and Investment Management comprising Barclays Capital, Barclays Global Investors and Barclays Wealth.

Bates College, Lewiston

142nd commencement at 10 a.m. May 25, Coram Library Quadrangle (Merrill Gymnasium in the event of inclement weather).

Bowdoin College,

Brunswick

203rd commencement at 10 a.m. May 24, terrace of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art on the Quad (Farley House in the event of inclement weather).
