ORONO – A second former University of Maine student has been sentenced in the alcohol-related death of his friend, Adam Baxter, 19, of England.
Anthony Lord, 21, pleaded guilty last week at Cumberland County Superior Court to four charges of furnishing alcohol to minors. Lord’s original felony charge of furnishing liquor to a minor, resulting in death, was dropped as a result of that plea, and he has been ordered to spend 63 days in jail.
The charges against Lord stemmed from Baxter’s death. The UM student and soccer player had been drinking at the home of his friend and former teammate Sean Meehan, 20, of Portland, the night he died.
Meehan pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges connected to the incident and was sentenced to more than a month behind bars and three years probation.
In addition to jail time, Lord has been sentenced to two years of probation. The conditions of his probation weren’t available Monday, but he likely can’t consume alcohol and must participate in substance abuse treatment.
