Murray propels Shires past Blue Devils

CALAIS – Chelsi Murray hit a two-run triple, an RBI double, and a single Monday to the Houlton Shiretowners beat Calais 13-6 and hand the Blue Devils their first loss of the softball season.

Nikki Eastman chipped in with a double, single and three RBIs for Houlton and Brittany Guiod had a triple, double and RBI.

Alex McVicar doubled, singled and drove in a run for Calais and Honor Wilkinson added two singles and an RBI.

At Danforth, Kiki Smart pitched a complete game and hit two inside-the-park home runs to help Greater Houlton Christian Academy outlast host East Grand in a slugfest.

The two teams combined for 56 hits.

Smart hit a two-run homer and a solo shot for the Eagles. Kasi Parker had a double and two singles, while Megan Carroll had two singles.

Nikki Tuck hit a triple and three singles, Courtney Lloyd had a triple and two singles, Liz Gilman had a double and two singles, and Kaitlyn Beaudoin added a solo inside-the-park homer.

At Limestone Saturday, Melanie Allen belted a three-run homer, a two-run homer and hit an RBI single to lead Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics to victory.

Kelly Peers had two doubles and a single with three RBIs for the Eagles.

Merrill Shaw and Emily Welksmon had three singles and three RBIs each for Fort Fairfield and Sarah Hebert two singles and an RBI.

At Belfast, Katie Knowlen scattered four hits, struck out six and walked only two to lead Winslow to victory.

Kate Bernard hit a three-run home run for the winners and Katie Caron and Knowlen each doubled.

Vicki Overlock singled and tripled for Belfast and Brianna Webster singled and scored twice.

At Waldoboro, Kristen Sousa hit two singles, a double and scored two runs to lift Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield over Medomak Valley.

Tiffany McLaggen had two singles and two RBIs for MCI and Libby Brook tripled.

Kayla Santheson had a double and two singles with an RBI for Medomak. Jessica Koon had two singles and two RBIs and Kayla Vannah doubled.

At Calais, Josh Gillespie allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out eight to lead Calais past Houlton.

Jordan Leeman doubled for Calais. Matt O’Brien and Gillespie each had a single.

Corey Woodward hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to pace Houlton. Porter Gervais and Josh Harvey singled.

Belfast 7, Winslow 6

At Belfast, Dale Dutton’s RBI single with one out in the bottom of the seventh completed a six-hit, five-run rally as the Lions came from behind to upend the Black Raiders.

Bryce Ridley and Jack Davis opened the inning with singles and, after a walk, Derrick Bernosky hit a run-scoring single. Tyler Bowen followed with an RBI fielder’s choice, then Jake Arthers singled in a run.

After Cote Ward hit into a fielder’s choice that led to an error and the tying run, Steinort singled to set up Dutton’s game-winner.

Dutton finished with two singles for Belfast and went the distance on the mound, scattering 10 hits. Bowen doubled and singled, while Bernosky and Steinort each had another single.

Chris Brawn paced Winslow with two doubles and a single. Kevin Martin doubled and singled.

At Rockport, Gordon Fischer hit a solo home run in the fifth inning and added a two-run homer in the sixth to lift Camden Hills over Waterville.

Jake Grinnell doubled and singled with an RBI for Camden Hills. Thomas Kennedy and Phil Curll each hit two singles and drove in a run.

Brian Bridger singled and hit a solo home run in the sixth to pace Waterville. Eli Fitzgerald had two singles and an RBI and Brian Chaput singled and doubled.

At Lee, Ed Flaherty hit a solo home run in the second inning and added an RBI double to push Woodland past Lee Academy.

Chad James doubled twice for the Dragons and Andy Brown added two singles and two RBIs.

Lee’s Ryan Beers hit a two-run single in the first inning and Kyle McLeod doubled and singled.

At Jonesport, Blake Chase and Colby Tucker combined to pitch a two-hit shutout, allowing no walks and striking out nine, to lift Narraguagus of Harrington past Jonesport-Beals.

Josh Beal hit a double, single and drove in three runs for the Knights. Cam Jordan had two singles and two RBIs. Chase doubled and singled with two RBIs and Tucker added two singles and two RBIs.

Zach Fenton and Terrell Carver singled to lead Jonesport-Beals.
