Le Tour D’Orrington scheduled for June 1

ORRINGTON – The 2008 Le Tour D’Orrington Bike Race -a 26-mile race through the community – will start at 1 p.m. June 1 at the elementary school.

“The race begins at Center Drive School [and] encompasses most of the roads in town and ends on King’s Mountain,” Town Manager Carl Young said in a press release. “Traffic delays are to be expected between 1 and 3 p.m.”

The benefit bicycle race was started by avid cyclist and Orrington resident Marcel Bastide, 64, to honor the memory of fellow racer and good friend Richard Williamson.

All proceeds from the race will benefit a local clinic, he said.

“The charity we choose is the Penobscot Community Healthcare,” Bastide said on Wednesday.

A good place to watch the race from is Kozy Korner because racers will use that roadway junction three times during the race, Young said.

To register for the race, contact Bastide at 825-3046.
