Everybody’s talking about it – well, at least the ladies. That’s right, the “Sex and the City” movie opens tonight. And if you’re wondering what all the hype is about, this is like Jackie Chan or James Bond for women.

While I realize that “SATC” (that’s what we ladies call it for short), is not a reality show, I had an idea while we were preparing for the BDN’s coverage of the phenomenon.

What if “SATC” were a reality show? It has happened before with “Desperate Housewives,” which became “The Real Housewives of Orange County” on the reality circuit and now has spread to housewives in New York City.

“SATC” likely would look similar, but there would have to be lots of drama (and sex) for it to last.

Then CMT could pick up its own country version, and similar to “My Big Redneck Wedding” that’s much like TLC’s “A Wedding Story” and others out there, we could see “Sex and the Country” complete with bean suppahs and hunter orange fashions.

Then there’s a whole different world of opportunity if “SATC” were turned into a reality competition.

Competitions for elimination could include finding the best pair of shoes at the lowest price; the best breakup method; a writing exercise for Carrie-like contestants to shine; a good debate to show off their Miranda-like traits; and a best and worst outfit made from items they might find in their mothers’ closets.

Of course a reality show wouldn’t be much without a role for the men, so it could be like “Project Runway” and the beau of each “SATC” gal could be up for elimination along with his lady. What better way to make a man obey than to threaten him with losing the grand prize of a big-screen TV, season tickets to his favorite sporting event, and a stash of cash?

There’s a world of opportunity for writers to take advantage of the movie hype and come up with one heck of a show for the fall. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens, but I’m betting we’ll see “Sex and the (Real) City” very soon.
