Barbees lead Knights past Woodland 3-0 Katahdin, Calais, Averill notch victories

WOODLAND – Linny Barbee scored two goals and assisted on the other to pace the Narraguagus Knights to a 3-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Woodland Dragons Tuesday.

Missy Barbee scored the other goal for 8-2 Narraguagus of Harrington while Kelcey Rossi had an assist. Sara Snider made 14 saves on 20 shots.

Beth Covey made 19 saves on 25 shots for the 5-5 Dragons.

Katahdin 7, Houlton Chr. 0

At Sherman Station, K.C. Duffy-Stanley scored three goals and Scarlet McAvoy added two to power the Cougars past Greater Houlton Christian.

Kylee McAvoy and Krystal Daggett added a goal apiece for the winners while Krystle McMoarn, Tracy Willigar and Duffy-Stanley each added an assist. Angie Qualey and Michelle Martin combined for five saves on nine shots.

Megan Jago made eight saves on 16 shots for Houlton Christian.

Calais 4, Shead 2

At Calais, Lanna Martin scored two goals and assisted on another as the Blue Devils prevailed.

Katie Frost pitched in with a goal and an assist for 6-2-1 Calais while Danielle Feck notched a goal and Crystal Martin had an assist. Katie Welch made four saves on six shots.

Skylar Richardson and Samantha Davis scored the goals for the 4-6 Tigerettes of Eastport. Kate Moore and Valerie Bowen handed out assists. Roliza DeWitt and Mary Ingersoll combined to make eight saves on 13 shots in net.

Averill 2, Valley 2 (2OT)

At Bingham, Brittany Rauscher scored both goals to propel 2-4-1 Averill of Hinckley.

Angela Alley added an assist while Sally Jenkins made 30 saves for the Beavers.

Lera McCandless scored an unassisted goal for 2-6-2 Valley while Megan Melcher added a goal on an assist from Jessica Hibbert. Breanna Belinger made seven saves.

Penquis 5, Schenck 1

At Milo, April Allen and Lindsay Hamlin each scored a pair of goals as their Penquis Patriots knocked off Schenck of East Millinocket.

Erin Beasley chipped in with a goal and an assist for the 7-4-1 Patriots. Ashley Pelletier and Amanda Martin combined to make six saves on nine shots.

For the 4-7 Wolverines, Sarah Gordon scored on a Laura Davis assist. Beth Chasse and Megan Carey teamed up in goal to make 22 saves on 35 shots.

Lee 5, Bangor Christian 1

At Lee, Deidra Ham led the 12-0 Pandas with two goals and two assists.

Shelby Pickering had two goals and an assist while Michaela Ham contributed with a goal. Katie Harris made three saves on four shots.

Heather Niles scored unassisted for 3-7-4 Bangor Christian while Shelly Blake made 29 saves on 43 shots.

Boys soccer

Bangor 2, Presque Isle 1

At Bangor, Alex Chaiken snapped a 1-1 tie in the final minute of the first half on a pass from Jeff Oertel as the Rams avenged a previous 5-0 loss to the Wildcats.

Oertel had the first goal with an assist from Ryan Jeffrey while Payson Nichols faced 12 shots and stopped six for the 8-4 Rams, who have won five straight. One of Nichols’ saves came on a penalty kick just before Chaiken’s game-winner.

Luke Blackstone scored with an assist from Matt Pelletier while Nick Casavant and Shane Clark combined for four saves on 10 shots for 9-2-2 Presque Isle.

JV: Bangor 2-1

Fort Fairfield 3, Katahdin 2

At Fort Fairfield, Kris Osgood dove to head in a pass from Ryan Helstrom with two minutes remaining in the second overtime as Fort Fairfield edged Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Mickey Browning contributed to the cause with a goal and an assist, Shea Armstrong netted a goal and Osgood tallied an assist for the 9-2-2 Tigers. Ryan Babin registered five saves on seven shots.

For the 0-11 Cougars, Jacob McNally scored both goals on assists from Jerick Hanson. Chris McNally totaled five saves on 32 shots.

Caribou 3, Fort Kent 1

At Caribou, Mike Hofmann’s goal off a Tyler Giles assist with 18:23 remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Vikings triumphed.

Ben Wakana scored the only goal of the first half off a Matt Holabird feed.

Hofmann made it 2-0 before Anthony Lamarr’s unassisted goal a minute later cut the lead in half. Andrew Bouchard sewed up the win with 26 seconds remaining.

Both teams are now 9-2-1.

Nic Chasse made five saves on 12 shots for Caribou while Nick Thibodeau stopped 16 of 27 shots for Fort Kent.

JV: Caribou 4-1

Dexter 2, Central 1

At Dexter, Mitchell Sawyer scored the winning goal 5:29 into the second half with an assist from Matt Capobianco.

Capobianco added a goal an assist from Sawyer while Brian Hersey made 15 saves on 22 shots for 5-5-1 Dexter.

Tom Farmer scored an unassisted goal for 5-5-2 Central while Paul Laking stopped 16 of 24 shots.

Foxcroft 4, Nokomis 3

At Newport, the Ponies trailed Nokomis 3-1 just four minutes into the second half but roared back with three straight scores in the victory.

Foxcroft Academy’s Pat Lizotte was credited with the game-winner when a Nokomis defender’s clearing attempt – a header – caromed into the net with three minutes left. Lizotte also tallied a goal on a penalty kick for the 7-4 Ponies. Corey Beaulieu and Josh Chase added a goal each while Manuel Blanc notched an assist. Matt Hackett made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Matt Fraser had a goal and an assist for 1-9-1 Nokomis. Justin Veazie and Justin Paradis added goals while Justin Nichols tallied an assist. Erik Gardner made six saves on 10 shots.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 1, Bangor 0

At Bangor, Veronica Willette scored the winning goal unassisted for 7-3-1 Foxcroft Academy.

Megan Ryder stopped nine of 16 shots for the Ponies.

Allison Frazier and Frankee Waldron combined for 13 saves on 22 shots for 5-6 Bangor.

JV: Foxcroft 2-1

Nokomis 2, Brewer 0

At Newport, junior goalkeeper Brandi Davis notched her fourth shutout of the season by stopping all three Brewer shots to lead the host Warriors to their fifth win.

Megan Randlett scored the first goal off a Gill Snow assist and Mandi Frost scored the second off a Randlett assist for the 5-6 Warriors.

Hilary Ohmart made 23 saves on 25 shots for the 0-11 Witches.

JV: Nokomis 5-0

Old Town 3, Hampden 1

At Old Town, Kendall Tracewski led the 11-0 Indians with two goals, one assisted by Kasey Spencer.

Liz Saucier added an unassisted goal while Emelie Richard made 15 saves on 20 shots.

Sarah Peters scored an unassisted goal for 6-5 Hampden while Jen Hessert stopped 15 of 24 shots.

JV: Hampden 0, Old Town 0
