New Hampshire edges Maine men for 3rd win

ORONO – Josh Hareld’s goal at the 66:55 mark gave the New Hampshire Wildcats a 2-1 men’s soccer victory over the Maine Black Bears Tuesday.

Nicholas Mello scored the first goal on a pass from Hareld while Shaun O’Neil made four saves on 12 shots for 3-3-1 UNH.

Greg Bajek scored on a penalty kick for 1-5 of Maine while Mat Cosgriff faced 13 shots and stopped 6.

Colby 1, UM-Farmington 0

At Farmington, Shawn Burnell scored on a corner kick by Ryan Boccuzzi in the 23rd minute of the second half to give 4-3 Colby the win over previously undefeated UMaine Farmington.

Dan Friedman and Andy Danziger combined for 10 saves on 10 shots for the winners.

Mike Hauser stopped 14 of 16 shots for the 6-1 Beavers.

Bates 1, Southern Maine 0

At Gorham, Dan Bradford scored the winning goal unassisted at 69:06 to give 3-3 Bates the win.

Dan Spector made two saves on four shots for the Bobcats of Lewiston.

For the 2-9-1 University of Southern Maine, Jeff Gary stopped four of 14 shots.

Women’s soccer

Bates 7, St. Joseph’s 0

At Lewiston, senior forward Kate Dockery poured in a school record nine points on four goals and an assist as Bates rolled over St. Joseph’s of Standish. It was the Bobcats’ sixth consecutive shutout.

Dockery’s record broke a mark set by Laury Schwarzberg in 1982 and tied by Kate O’Malley in 1996.

Becky Castle and Catherine Crosby both added a goal and two assists and Katie Carroll contributed a goal for 8-1 Bates. Amanda Waterhouse, Cara Howieson and Heather Thomson were also credited with assists. Goalies Kim Martell and Lynne Antinarelli combined for two saves on two shots.

For the 4-5 Monks, Marissa Regan logged 23 saves on 41 shots.

Field hockey

Bowdoin 2, Southern Maine 0

At Brunswick, Leah McClure scored on a pass from Jackie Templeton, helping to give 7-2 Bowdoin the win.

Marissa O’Neil scored with an assist from Alison Scaduto and Kristin Pollock made one save in net.

Jessie Superchi made five saves for the 6-4 University of Southern Maine.

Colby 3, Gordon 0

At Waterville, Becca Bruce led 6-2 Colby with a goal and an assist.

Meredith Miller scored with the assist going to Cari Hubbard and Lizzy Brandt while Wendy Bowner added a goal. Sarah Browne recorded an assist wihle Carrie Tarrisi and Maura Meyers combined for two saves on six shots.

For 7-2 Gordon (Mass.), Briana Riddell made 16 saves on 27 shots.
