Brewer police are expected to charge a Washington County juvenile with theft and assault after he bumped a pharmacy employee while trying to steal vitamin supplements.

The 17-year-old from Deblois, whose name was not released by police, apparently tried to take a bottle of vitamin supplements from the Brewer Rite Aid on Wilson Street late Tuesday morning.

Brewer police Sgt. Arden Jones said the teen took the bottle of pills off the shelf and brought them to a restroom in the store. When he emerged and tried to leave, a Rite Aid employee confronted the would-be shoplifter. Jones said the boy brushed past the worker on his way out and struck the man in the chest with his shoulder.

The worker followed him outside and wrote down a license plate number, which was traced to his parents in Deblois, Jones said. As it turns out, the teen did not end up taking the pills, which were found scattered in the store restroom. (Eric Russell, BDN)

A rash of car burglaries has plagued the north end of Brewer in the last few days, but so far police have no suspects.

Sgt. Alden Jones said at least nine car burglaries have been reported and he believes they are connected. All of the vehicles were unlocked and most owners reported only loose change and CDs missing. Jones did say that a laptop computer was taken from one vehicle.

Students and staff were evacuated Wednesday from James F. Doughty School in Bangor after a bomb threat was found written on a restroom wall.

Bangor Superintendent Robert “Sandy” Ervin confirmed that the threat was discovered sometime after noon, and that the students were evacuated to the Vine Street School. From there, parents were notified and students were released as long as school officials had confirmation of where they were going.

Bangor police responded to the threat and searched the school, but found nothing. Ervin said there are no suspects. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)

PITTSFIELD – Police charged a 16-year-old boy Wednesday afternoon with assaulting this mother after the pair got into an argument.

Sgt. Timothy Roussin said the boy was damaging his Main Street home when Officer Michael Roussin arrived. The teenager also had grabbed his mother by her hair and assaulted her. Roussin said the woman did not require medical treatment.

Roussin said the boy had wanted to go downtown with friends but when his mother said no, he began breaking up the house.

Since the boy was already on juvenile probation for the same type of incident, his probation officer placed a hold on him and he was taken to Mountain View Correctional Center in Charleston. (Sharon Mack, BDN)
