Grinnell helps Windjammers sail past Lions

BELFAST – Jake Grinnell pitched a five-hitter, striking out 10 and walking three, to lead the Camden Hills Windjammers past Belfast 2-1 in baseball action Wednesday.

Mykel Scalloway led off the seventh with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on an error and scored the winning run on Gordon Fischer’s sacrifice fly. Scalloway hit an RBI single as well.

Tyler Bowen hit two singles to pace the Lions.

At Belfast, Brandon Reilly’s two-out single to right scored Luke Alley from third with the winning run in the top of the 10th inning as Lincoln Academy of Newcastle outlasted the Lions.

Gavin Jannides had two doubles to pace the Eagles. Ben McLain, Luke Alley, Brandon Reilly and Dan Wyand each hit two singles.

Dale Dutton had a double, two singles and two RBIs to lead Belfast, Jake Arthers had a double and two singles, Matt Steinhort had three singles and an RBI and Derrick Bernosky added two singles.

At Old Town, Derek Fish singled twice, doubled and scored three runs to help the Golden Bucks beat the Coyotes.

Kyle McGeechan chipped in with a double and single for Bucksport, and Tyler French added a two-run single. Cam Wadleigh and Tim Nason each contributed with an RBI single.

Cory Wasson hit an RBI double and RBI single to lead the Coyotes. Jason Smith added a single and double, and Colin Ziegenbein singled twice.

Alyssa Elliott singled twice for Machias.

At Lincoln, Ashley Kelley fired a four-hitter, striking out 15 and walking one, and Jaimie Beers’ two-out, two-run triple in the seventh broke a 1-1 tie.

The seventh-inning runs were unearned as an infield error and a passed ball on a third strike allowed Beers to come to the plate.

Monica Gallant and Ally Wharton had the only other hits for Hermon, both singles.

Kristy Burleigh had two singles for Mattanawcook Academy and Bree Hanscom had a run-scoring double. Deni Nicastro pitched 6 1/3 innings of two-hit, two-run ball, striking out eight and walking two.
