DOVER-FOXCROFT – Evergreen, The Pine Tree Hospice Center for Grieving Children and Their Families, is accepting up to four more people for the facilitator training being offered later this month. Volunteer facilitators help support children, teens, young adults and families who are grieving the death of a family member or friend.
Volunteers will complete a 28-hour training course covering topics such as reflective listening, grief, participating in a peer support group, being a true helper, boundaries, confidentiality, child development, age appropriate activities, stress management, healing the feeling child, safe and fun ways to physically express emotions, special issues of suicide survivors, spirituality, rituals and goodbyes. There is no charge to take the training and no charge to families to attend the peer support groups. The training will be held at Mayo Regional Hospital over four evenings (June 18, 20, 26, and 27) and two Saturdays (June 21 and 28). Trained volunteer facilitators will meet with children and their families one evening a week and are asked to make a one-year commitment to the program.
If you would like to help area children and families during grief and loss, please call Pine Tree Hospice at 564-4346 to register today. The next Evergreen training will be held in the fall.
