Bangor

Summer Music Series

It’s time for the Bangor Public Library’s Summer Music Series. The free concerts offer programs for music lovers of all ages and tastes.

The traditional kickoff is a performance by the Bangor Band at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, in Peirce Park next to the library. The Bangor Band has been entertaining listeners since the mid-1800s and continues to be a great source of civic pride.

String performers from the internationally famous Kneisel Hall in Blue Hill will perform Wednesday, June 18, at the library. In a presentation for younger music lovers, they will play at 4 p.m. in the Story Room. In a concert for all, they offer a concert of classic music at 7 p.m. in the Lecture Hall.

The Spontaneous Jazz Ensemble will offer an evening of jazz at 7 Wednesday, July 2.

The Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Hancock County, appears at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 9.

The Lidral Jazz Duo performs at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16.

The Sebasticook Valley Community Band performs at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 23.

The Heart of Maine Chorus appears in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 30.

Land Trust walks

The Bangor Land Trust will host some community events:

. Insect Walk, 8 p.m. Thursday, June 19. Bring a field guide or a camera. This is a no-kill observation experience; collecting will not be encouraged. Black lights, spotlights and more will be used. Twilight hours offer a range of insects. Meet at the Northeast Penjajawoc Preserve kiosk on Kittredge Road in Bangor.

. Wildflower Walk, 1 p.m. Saturday, June 28. Dick Andren will host an outing at Walden-Parke Preserve to identify wildflowers. Bring a notebook or camera. From Essex Street, turn onto Walden-Parke Way, then right onto Tamarack.

Winterport

Flag Day ceremony

American Legion Argonne Post 138 of Winterport will conduct a ceremony for the retirement and honorable destruction of unserviceable U.S. flags on Flag Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, in Abbott Park.

Unserviceable flags may be dropped off at the town office or taken to the ceremony and given to Legion members. The public is cordially invited.
