Lucky for Bravo and for us, “The Real Housewives of Orange County” turned out to have some drama entertaining enough to get its own show. I’ve mentioned before that former housewife Jo De La Rosa and her now ex-fiance and manager Slade Smiley would be returning to the screen this summer for a show of their own.
Well, let me tell you, when the preview hit my desk Wednesday I couldn’t wait to get home and watch, and I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
The idea behind “Date My Ex: Jo and Slade” is to find Jo a boyfriend who is going to treat her right. Busy with her music career in Los Angeles, Jo hasn’t had time to date, but at the urging of her friends she’s ready to dive back into the pool of men lining up at her door. There’s only one catch.
Since Slade knows Jo better than anyone, he’s going to help her pick a man.
The premise is much like “The Bachelorette,” only kind of in reverse.
Four guys actually live with Slade and each gets to take Jo on a date. After each round of dates, Jo picks one guy to stay in the house with Slade. The first-round dating continues with a different group of men each week until there is a field of men for Jo to go on second dates with. (Confusing, I know. But you’ll catch on quick).
Here’s the catch. During “The Real Housewives,” I always thought Slade was a controlling jerk, but I think I was manipulated during the preview of “Date My Ex” into thinking he might still genuinely care for Jo.
Only more episodes will prove if they still really love each other, or if he really is the slimy Smiley I think he is.
If you loved the Orange County, you have to watch this one. The show premieres at 10 p.m. Monday, July 21, on Bravo, and I promise you’ll be left wanting more.
On a not-so-wonderful note, Joey Fatone is at it again. I know I just told you he’s the ringmaster for “Celebrity Circus” (which I stupidly watched Wednesday), but he’s also got a new competition coming to TLC.
The former ‘N-Sync star is becoming a reality show regular with shows like “The Singing Bee” and “Dancing with the Stars” under his belt. Now he’s moving on with Mel B to “The Singing Office.” The show looks super cheesy and super addicting, since music and embarrassing moments seem to make excellent reality TV.
The show premieres on TLC at 9 p.m. Sunday, June 29, on TLC.
While those shows might be a couple of weeks off, don’t forget to tune in at 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, to the season starter of “America’s Got Talent” on NBC.
