The fourth Special Olympics Maine Equestrian Competition is scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds. Eighty athletes from Penobscot, Hancock and eight other counties will compete in English and Western equitation and working trails events.
The athletes have been training all summer for the competition, which is run with the assistance of numerous riding stables statewide. Special Olympics Maine, a year-round athletic program for people with mental retardation, serves more than 3,500 athletes.
